Section one, National Information Power and Florida Student Information Literacy Descriptors K-12, identifies those skills necessary for Florida students to be information literate. Helping students master these skills is the responsibility of library media specialists in collaboration with teachers. These descriptors are not identified by specific grades, for as students advance from kindergarten through twelfth grade, all of the indicators should be addressed with more specialization and depth at each grade level.

Section 2 expands section one with a correlation of the national standards and the Florida Student Information Literacy Descriptors K-12 with the Sunshine State Standards Benchmarks and the Grade Level Expectations. The information is consolidated for specific grade levels, K-8. This section will be helpful to library media specialists in planning with teachers at a particular grade level.

Section three, Quick Reference Correlation, presents a correlation of the national standards with applicable Sunshine State Benchmarks and Grade Level Expectations grouped by grade clusters. This section shows the progression of the complexity of grade level expectations for each benchmark across the grade groupings, K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. There are no grade level expectations for grades 9-12 that are published as a part of the Sunshine State Standards. This section will be helpful to library media specialists in working with administrators.
