Reading Counts allows students to select and read books of interest to them, then take a computer-based quiz to demonstrate their comprehension of the book.
The advantage for students is that they get to read a book that interests them and they get immediate feedback from the computer after taking the quiz.
The advantage for teachers is that they can easily keep track of student progress by receiving computer-generated reports from the program. Teachers can choose to receive reports as often as they wish. The program is very flexible and teachers can even custom design their own quizzes if they wish.
The quizzes in Reading Counts are not difficult. The questions are, however, very specific and can only be successfully answered if the book is read carefully. Quizzes typically consist of ten multiple choice questions with four selections for possible answers. No two quizzes are alike in Reading Counts and students may take a quiz on the same book up to three times.
Each school has a unique collection of Reading Counts titles which have been carefully selected and purchased by the school's library media specialists.
